Who’ll bring it home!

Wednesday, February 21, 2007

Here is my fearless bets for the upcoming academy awards!!! My votes may not match yours, but anyway, this my blog so my votes would matter most… heheheh!!!! I would not consider this as bets actually, favorites ko siguro! I am not confident that my choices would win! I have seen most of the films and I could very much asses the performances! Pero talagang tough ang competition! Winner lahat ng nominees!!! Winner kasi pinagkagastuhan kong panoorin!! hrrrmph!

So pakilagay na lang po ng mga pusta niya sa pinapaikot na tabo!!! Bente-bente lang okay!! Pwede ring pumusta sa mas malaking halaga… heheheh!!!

Performance by an actor in a leading role

Leonardo DiCaprio - BLOOD DIAMOND (award giving bodies love to play around with Leo! He has been nominated in several award giving bodies for this year and never took a trophy home! he was actually good in Blood Diamond, but sorry, he was actually drowned by the performances of his supporting actors. But Di Caprio shows a lot of improvement in his craft!! He has every right to be nominated

Ryan Gosling - HALF NELSON
Peter O'Toole - VENUS
Will Smith - THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS (I was drowning in tears while watching this movie! Will Smith didnt fail to crumple my heart! He is so good with his transition form Hitch to this drama! He is a winner in playin a loser!)

Forest Whitaker - THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND - it would be no less than Whitaker! Not because he took the best actor award from the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild! The Academy Might follow the trend but Forrest deserves to win!! His performance scared me so much!! Winner ang oily skin tsaka yung kirat niyang mata! Para syang wild pig all throughout the film!! he'll take the trophy home!

Performance by an actor in a supporting role

Alan Arkin - LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE- Arkin was hilarious. his part was short, but it was well delivered. His wit and strength in delivering the punchlines were superb. He  would take the trophy home if Hounsou fails!
Jackie Earle Haley - LITTLE CHILDREN- I was annoyed with his character in the film. Believable performance but not notable!
Djimon Hounsou - BLOOD DIAMOND - He showed so much! You can feel everythiing! i love the scene where he was crying with anger , fear and at the same time sadness. Very effective! He would be a Big Threat for Eddie Murphy!
Eddie Murphy - DREAMGIRLS - Nothing new from Eddie Murphy! believe me, you have seen those antics before! nothing spectacular or great! I actually wonder why he took the award for the same category from the Golden Globes.
Mark Wahlberg - THE DEPARTED- Fine! Such a natural! The blabbermouth got the nomination by blabber mouthing! Nice!

Performance by an actress in a leading role

Penélope Cruz - VOLVER - Pedro Almodovar surely knows how to pull the best out of her! i liked her, but not enough to win!
Judi Dench - NOTES ON A SCANDAL - Nasty! Pls. Let the dame win!!! I tell you, I was all knees when I was through watching the film! You would love to hate her! Her eyes and her delivery is no less than masterful! Perfect!
Helen Mirren - THE QUEEN - O' cmon, you won 2 award from the Golden Globes! My God!! I agree that she was great in playing the Queen. But compared to Dench, she actually has someone to imitate. Dench's acting is so natural and it is all out of her interpretation on what the character should be! Helen was good in imitating, not acting!!! But it would be okay with me if she still wins!

Meryl Streep - THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA - The new gay icon! Streep had a great transition from rag to fab! She was such a devil.  The role was good! It was an acting role but not award worthy! Her trophy from the Golden Globes is enough

Kate Winslet - LITTLE CHILDREN - Kate! Kate! Kate! This would be the nth nomination for Kate from the academy! No need to be surprised because she is good indeed! But i think this would be one of those years! The other nominees would actually drown her. her performance in Little Children is outstanding, and I also want her to win somehow!

Performance by an actress in a supporting role

Adriana Barraza - BABEL - She is no less than stupid all throughout the film. She was so effective in doing that but I cant equate it with the other nominees!
Cate Blanchett - NOTES ON A SCANDAL- I would give you one good reason why Kate should win, It would have something to do with Judy Dench! Their chemistry was so powerful on screen! I love every sparring moment! Kate didnt allow to be overshadowed by Dench's prowess! she managed to stand out! The role was perfect for her! She made having sex with a 15 yr old not that bad at all!
Abigail Breslin - LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE - Next to Blanchet, I am actually rooting for this Kid! Her dance number was hilarious and was so wacky na napa-tumbling ako sabay split! I would be delighted if this young actress would take it home!
Jennifer Hudson - DREAMGIRLS - She was good! But I dont like her! Back in American Idol, I was actually on her side! But not this time babeh…. give the Golden Man to someone else! I hate the attention that she is receiving when she won the SAG and the Globes, so overrated . She is not that good! I was not impressed at all! She just needs to act like a bitch and thats it!
Rinko Kikuchi - BABEL - The frontal nudity and the  mute  effort are not  enough! Sorry!!

Best animated feature film of the year

CARS- It was good! It was actually great. I wont bet on this one!

HAPPY FEET - I'll go for Happy feet!! I love it!
MONSTER HOUSE- Nothing spectacular! animation was good, i love the characters so much, but nothing special!

Achievement in costume design

CURSE OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA
DREAMGIRLS
MARIE ANTOINETTE - nag-flop na nga! bigyan naman daw natin ng award! pero in fairness fabulous ang mga costume! gorgeous! lalo na ang mga shoes!
THE QUEEN

Achievement in directing

BABEL - outstanding direction! thats it! outstanding! I would be rooting for Inarittu!!
THE DEPARTED - Very Scorsese! Nothing new! Kinopya na nga lng eh, di pa nakayang gawing something fresh or fab! Pero it turned out good! naman! This might prove Scorsese's worth after several nominations and not winning at all!

LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA - Dont underestimate Clint Eastwood! Inarritu surely needs to condition himself not to expect winning!
THE QUEEN - Weh!! Great performance, but certainly not a great film!
UNITED 93- Good attempt! I was actually moved! Pero di pang-winner!

Best motion picture of the year

BABEL - We had CRASH na from last year! Babel, might not get it for the Academy but it remains strong pa rin naman! Compared to Crash it is much better…. So we never know….

THE DEPARTED -  I actually loved it! Pero nagawa na to ng mga Asyano! Minerge lng ni Scorsese at nung writer and mga characters ng original at yung dalawang parts nung Infernal affairs! I am not seeing so much worth from the film as well. good casting, good direction… good lang… hindi siya fab , hindi siya great!!

LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA - I would bet on this one as well! Good Job for Clint Eastwood! Two thumbs up at nanginginig pa!

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE - sorry pero Little Miss Sunshine talaga ako! Out of all the nominees eto lang yung walang kahit anong effort sa visual effects or anything! It was the simplest movie pero d'best ang impact! diretso sa puso! It'll make you laugh, it'll make you cry! Not too much violence, walang mga buhay at malalaking octopus, walang mga conspiracy, walang pasabog…. ang gaan dalhin!! I would be happy if this film wins! It is already a winner for its cast pa lang! the movie actually soared high without the creators actually attempting to do so!! Kaya Go!
THE QUEEN - Uulitin ko… great performances, pero lousy na pelikula!! I bet , kahit fans ni diana o ni Queen Elizabeth mismo di to magugustuhan!

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST- It earned so much money so enough na!

Achievement in visual effects

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST
POSEIDON
SUPERMAN RETURNS

Adapted screenplay

BORAT CULTURAL LEARNINGS OF AMERICA FOR MAKE BENEFIT GLORIOUS NATION OF KAZAKHSTAN - eto yung bet ko… happy kasi !! The swimsuit scene was so funny!
CHILDREN OF MEN - love ko si Alfonso Cuaron so eto yung 3rd ko!
THE DEPARTED - 4th ko naman to!
LITTLE CHILDREN - gusto ko yung narration pero ewan ko pang  5th lang sa kin to

NOTES ON A SCANDAL- eto yung 2nd ko!

Original screenplay

BABEL - eto yung mananalo pag hindi nanalo yung feeling ko
LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA -eto yung feeling ko na mananalo
LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE - eto yung gusto kong manalo
PAN'S LABYRINTH -

THE QUEEN- talo to! sori!

I actually love the cover! You would be surprised of the contrast! Seeing those clowns gracing the cover together with the Penguins on the other half of the spread! Funny!!
