Not Enough Light!

I’m quite disappointed with the film. I think I just expected too much…Well, think of Mel Chionglo, Ricky Lee … you can’t refuse to imagine something great from such combination. (Take note ha, quite lang! Slight lang na disappointment)

On a brighter side, the film succeeds in proving itself to be more than masturbatory. It’s not just about men flaunting their bulges and buns, the film at least tried to prove a point. Yung problema, hindi siya ganun ka-pulido. Ricky Lee, known as one of the industry’s finest, somehow failed in this attempt. Hindi malinis ang takbo at sobrang bumpy! Halata na pinilit lng na ipasok ang mga national concerns in some of the scenes. Ok sana, pero they should’ve used convincing actors for those scenes, medyo salpok talaga yung eksena tungkol sa mga nagkukuwentuhan tungkol sa mga terorista! The film tried to discuss how dirty our politics run, showbiz, poverty, education, activism pati na rin “braindrain”; kung saan hindi nagagamit ng bansa ang mga utak ng mga Pilipino dahil mas pinipiling mangibang bayan ! I just don’t like how they’ve inserted the word “global” in several scenes na talagang nakakairita.

I’ve been a follower of Ricky Lee and I love most of his works! I worship him when it comes to his craft. I love his style. He actually used the same approach, just like what he did with Moral and "Noon at Ngayon" with this film but it was just not that effective. The characters living their own world habang hinahayaan din nilang umikot ang realidad. Chionglo, also needs to consider how annoying some of his actors are. Direction is just OK, pero sayang yung material. They could have squeezed something more.

I love Joel Lamangan in this film. Nakakatakot siya! He could actually shift from one character to another with ease. Another impressive performance for Cherry Pie Picache, despite of such status in being an actress, hindi mapili si Cherry Pie, she loves her craft kaya tanggap lng ng tanggap ng role. She was very effective on this one. Well for me ha, magreact na ang gustong magreact, pero Cherry Pie is my Meryl Streep ng Pilipinas.

She’s supposed to be mute, pero medyo OA ang hitad na parang sinto-sinto! JE Sison was supposed to be rich, a son of a Congressman.

Commendable performances naman for Arnell Ignacio and Direk Jerry Sineneng.

Tyron, Tyron, Tyron…. He’s fine! I love the final scene. Sobrang expressive ng eyes niya, madadala ka. Not bad for his first lead.

I like how the film ended though. It just showed how cruel our world is. It was a true reflection on how life is. Life is how we make it sabi nila, kailangan nating makisayaw sa tugtog, pero paano kung hindi mo kayang i-control? Paano kung totoong Life is how we make it nga pero hindi mo gusto yung outcome, malala pa, hindi mo kayang takasan? Sad!
